Annual Wellness Exams for Women are usually an annual gynecological (GYN) exam or a routine checkup to ensure you are healthy inside and out. It can detect certain health problems and prevent future problems. In addition, an annual wellness exam builds a foundation of health and wellness for your entire life.
What is included in an Annual Woman’s Exam?
- A Pap test to screen for cervical cancer
- A breast exam to check for lumps, skin changes, or nipple discharge

An annual wellness exam also includes valuable information on vaccinations recommended for your age and health risks. For example, you may be offered the flu shot, Tdap, and human papillomavirus (HPV) injection.
You will also be scheduled or at least recommended for an annual mammogram to rule out or detect breast cancer.
Annual testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea is suggested for sexually active adolescents and young women up to age 25. In addition, routine HIV testing is advised for all sexually active women from age 19 until 64.
